Psychology & Talking therapy

I’m Mariette Bothma, a Chartered Clinical Psychologist and CBT Therapist.

About me

Hi, I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist and I currently work as a Deputy Clinical Lead within the National Health Service (NHS).   I have over 20 years of NHS and private practice experience as a Principal Clinical Psychologist.

My private practice is situated within Hertfordshire, and I offer face to face sessions from my consulting office in Welwyn Garden City.  Following COVID, I have started to offer clients the option of virtual sessions, across the UK and globally (excluding Canada and USA).

How I can help

I offer Psychological assessment and talking therapies for a range of emotional difficulties, including:

  • Depression
  • Stress & anxiety disorders;
  • Low self-esteem

In particular, I have an interest in helping clients with challenges across their lifespan, and I consider my clients’ physical health alongside their emotional wellbeing.  I am particularly interested in age-related challenges, such as going to University, having a baby or going through Menopause (to name a few examples).

My approach

My therapeutic approach is informed by Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Systemic and Psychodynamic therapies.  I completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) through Royal Holloway University and I’m an accredited CBT Therapist with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists (BABCP).

I completed training in short term psychodynamic therapy through the Anna Freud Centre in London and offer in depth therapies to help clients understand the root causes of their difficulties.

How I ensure delivery of best care

I am actively involved in continuing professional development and attend various workshops, training events and development programmes.  I’ve recently completed a Leadership development training through the University of Hertfordshire, and I offer clinical leadership and supervision to a team of clinicians in the NHS as well as colleagues in the private sector.

I consult and follow the National Institute of Excellence (NICE) guidelines for evidenced based practice.
